Planting Trees….


Planting TreesFor Earth Day, on April 22, 2017, I spent the morning with my brother Mike, his wife Morgan, and other volunteers planting trees at Cawthra Park in Mississauga. It was a wonderful event organized by One Million Trees Mississauga.

One Million Trees Mississauga was launched in 2013 with a mission to plant one million trees by 2032. So far through this program, 241,398 trees have been planted in Mississauga. I am not sure how many trees the entire volunteer group planted but between my brother, Morgan and myself, I estimate we planted about 22 trees….and it felt good.

In Our Toxic Lives Ignorance Truly Is Bliss


We live in a toxic world and the more I learn about this is the more I feel I don’t want to know.  In our toxic lives ignorance truly is bliss. Yet at the same time, I cannot help but dig deeper and deeper. We harm not only ourselves but our planet and leave behind a trail of blind carelessness never thinking about what is to come. I feel ashamed that I’ve been and continue to play a part in it.

My Hair Products Are Poisoning Me

For an assignment, I was tasked with evaluating the ingredients in some of the products I use regularly. The winning category of products I chose is haircare. My hair is not an easy thing to manage; think giant ball of frizz. It takes a lot of different products to tame the roaring ball of frizz that is my hair.  Now I always look for hair products that are sulfate free, paraben free and phosphate free because I know these substances damage hair and can have harmful effects on health, but in doing the assignment I quickly learned that isn’t enough.  In short, my hair products might be poisoning me.  Continue reading “My Hair Products Are Poisoning Me”

8 Ways to Get Rid of Those Awful Sugar Cravings

Why do we crave sugar?  Is it the influence of all the advertising of sugary goodies?  Could it be a bad reward mechanism, perhaps one that started in childhood?  Do food manufacturers deliberately design their products to be addictive or do their products really just taste so good (without the alternative motive of addiction) that you simply cannot live if you don’t have more?  Or, are sugar cravings just a natural thing?  All is not lost, we have the ability to curb those sugar cravings.  I am going to tell you why you have those cravings and exactly what you can do to kick’em to the curb.
